The Art of Hypocricy in Modern Politics

It never fails to astound me how much faith we put in the modern political system to do our bidding (after all we are the taxpayers), considering they are there – where they are, with all the lurks and perks, because we elected them to represent us in Australia and in the World. This faith is sadly misplaced on many occasions,

I don’t believe anyone in Australia would argue that the Carbon Tax being imposed within the next month was not something the electorate asked for or truly desired. Keeping in mind that we are continually told that this tax will help to reduce our so-called Carbon Footprint in the world, making us a nation to whom other countries will look up to and admire and follow. Save the planet is the distinct war cry – and Australia is to lead the way by imposing a tax on carbon and generally impoverishing most citizens and industries in the process.

Can you remember the NO CARBON TAX cry from the electorate?
I can, and it was totally ignored by the government of
Julia Gillard and The Australian Greens.

They have forged ahead with their plans, crying this is necessary to bring down world temperatures and carbon pollution. They have demanded that big polluters and Municipal Councils alike share in paying this new taxation, which of course will filter right back down to You and I, our children and our grandchildren, who will become poorer for its application, while it will do absolutely nothing what so ever to help planet Earth.

Bureaucracies and countless other departments within the various bureaucracies have been set up at taxpayer expense to formalise and ritualise how we will implement this new Carbon Dioxide Taxation Scheme.

Of course all these departments need office space and technological equipment to operate efficiently. The equipment requires trained staff to operate it. That is just the bare essentials – then you need to factor in staff wages, office running costs (electricity & water) etc. Obviously that implies each department will have a budget to operate within.

Because they are ostensibly working within the guidelines set up to implement a reduction in Carbon Dioxide being emitted into
the atmosphere, you would expect and hope that all things
within their circle of control would in fact
produce less carbon emission –
seems reasonable to me.

Having worked myself in an adult education environment, I would naturally consider ongoing staff training and attendance at seminars etc an essential part of life within these new bureaucracies. But tying the two previous statements together would seem a no brainer for those who are in control of managing budgets and reporting to the general public. Oh Dear, yes it is politicians and Civil Servants we were discussing – brains just does not seem to fit the scenario!

Their mandate is to educate people in how to reduce carbon emissions – carbon footprints, and as part of this it is necessary to attended various ongoing education seminars and conferences.

So why is it then that these bureaucrats (some would call them autocrats) feel free and at liberty to do the exact opposite of what they are preaching to us – the general populace about? Not only do it – but feel under absolutely no obligation to let the public know about it? Deceitful is a polite word that springs to mind.

Tim Andrews at the Australian Taxpayers Alliance has today revealed just what these rat bags (that is an Aussie-ism for a politician (grin) ) are really up to with your hard-earned dollars. These are the people who are representing us around the world at various venues, supposedly working towards saving the planet by reducing carbon emissions.

In just two weeks Aussie families will be slugged with a carbon tax to pay for a ‘green utopia’.

But where is this money really going? And are our carbon tax bureaucrats practicing what they preach?

We did a little digging, and discovered what many long suspected: While Aussie families are struggling, bureaucrats are living the high life and travelling to exotic destinations at our expense.

Documents released to the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance under Freedom of Information laws revealed that bureaucrats in the Department of Climate change flew 6,528,616km last financial year, costing us a staggering $3,274,286.40!

And while these very people are lecturing us to act like we’re back in the dark ages the carbon emissions of these flights equal over 1000 tonnes!

The hypocrisy is staggering – it’s one rule for them, and another rule for us.  No wonder they are happy to slug airlines with the carbon tax – they don’t have to pay the bill!

So where were they flying to?

None other than the holiday resorts of Cancun, Vanuatu, Miami, Fiji, The Maldives, Grenada, Miami, Barcelona… Must be tough having to travel to places like the Caribbean & South Pacific all the time…

The actions of Department staff make one thing clear: the carbon tax isn’t about the environment, it’s about squeezing taxpayers for their own benefit.

And of course, it’s only the best in luxury travel for our bureaucrats – no expense is spared! Many of these flights cost the taxpayers up to ten times what an online economy class ticket would cost.

A round trip from Sydney to Bali cost for one person $15,311!!!!! I had a look on Jetstar just now, and you could get economy flight for under $700! Then there’s the flight to Seoul ($15,688.57), Thailand ($13,093.74pp for two people), Chile ($12,805.46)…

And this doesn’t even include accommodation: From $21,115.69 for a 5 star hotel in Thailand to the whopping $265,000 for the delegation in Durban.

We asked who took these flights, but they refused to answer. It is no wonder that the department of climate change refused to reveal who took these flights – I’d be ashamed too if this was found out. We shall be appealing this decision, because the Australian public has a right to know whose holidays they are paying for.

This is just the first tranche of a series of documents we received under Freedom of Information laws and thank you to everyone whose donation made this possible (we were charged over $750!) We shall be releasing further data discovered about waste and misuse of taxpayer funds soon.

One thing is clear though – we need to AXE THIS TAX ASAP!

Did you know: The tourist capital of Brazil, which is known to be the most visited city in the southern hemisphere, has been overwhelmed by the huge numbers of delegates.  The city itself has its own staggering population of 6.4 million and catering for such a high number of visitors is a challenge.

Hotel accommodation is inadequate but efforts are being made to build more hotels and lodges as the 2014 World Cup, which will be hosted by Brazil, beckons.
For now, the city is cashing in on the meeting, charging anything from US$200 to as much as US$800 per night for some apartments.

Dual standards will always apply it seems. I bet there will be air conditioners used at meeting venues and hotels. I bet food will be of a standard not normally seen by local residents, and will include fresh meat, fish, milk and cream – it will not be solely a vegan diet being served. I bet luxury cars will employed bringing people to and from venues, hotels etc to airports.

You know, a little niggle deep inside of me is saying, if these people were truly honest about cutting emissions and helping poorer nations etc, they could do these educative processes using modern technologies like SKYPE! Imagine how much money that would save one and all… and help the planet as well….. Load of hypocrites they all are!

Politics is synonymous with hypocrisy, prevarication and broken promises! (Is there a technical word for ‘breaking a promise’?
