The Durban Dustbin

Ladies and gentlemen your tax dollars are once again going to be spent on luxurious surroundings, to host the COP 17 Conference.

COP 17 is the 17th conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC, which will be held in Durban South Africa from November 28th to December 9th, 2011.

It was hyped as the place where the new treaty on climate change, to replace the KYOTO protocol would be made. How wrong can they get?

Copenhagen was a flop. Cancun was another flop, and now you can get ready to dustbin Durban!

All the promises in the world mean nothing when – nothing happens. Now we find that the United States is refusing to sign off on the global climate fund.

This just goes to show that Australia has placed itself out on a limb and finds itself in a very precarious position.  Prime Minister Julia Gillard and her Greens political partner Bob Brown have dragged the Australian people, kicking and screaming into a future where taxes will be levied on carbon dioxide, (with no refunds in sight) ostensibly to reduce world temperatures. They are finding themselves very alone in this dangerous venture and have become the laughing stock of the nations.

Of course the current global financial crisis could be having a strong bearing on this new situation. The US is struggling as are most of the European Nations. One wonders exactly what Wayne Swan (Australia’s Treasurer) is feeding his money tree with these days.

Australians were promised by Minister Greg Combet that every cent of money raised through the new Carbon Tax Levy

will be dedicated to supporting households with any price impacts, and supporting businesses through the transition to a clean energy economy. Because we are a Labor government, we will support the most vulnerable in our community — the people who need help the most.

But Combet in Cancun promised  10% of the Australian carbon tax as a tithe to the UN. (And there’s the $599 million as part of the Fast Start Finance program over three years that is in the pipeline.)

JoNova asks: So which commitment will the Australian government break? Or, let me guess, in the world of spin, the government can give all the tax money back to Australians because the other 10% “of that” comes from … err… other taxes? (That’s how 100+10 = 100.) Well that’s all right then… let’s call it “tax-creep”. Could the carbon tax quietly be 10% bigger than advertised?

So what will happen in Dustbin? Errrr Durban.

Not a lot other than a rip-snorting holiday enjoyed by politicians and bureaucrats at your expense.

The people who have not collectively kept their heads in the AGW sand pits, have not given up attempting to get the message across. One must not forget, even though the mainstream media are doing their best to ignore it, that several thousand more emails have been released, showing just how sneaky and under handed, the pro global warming  FEARMONGERING scientists really are.

Affectionatley termed ‘Climategate 2.0’, the emails are interesting reading. Much information can be found over at WUWT.
