Scientists say climate change is not to blame for a massive iceberg that broke off from a glacier in Antarctica.
With an area of more than 2,500 square kilometres, the iceberg is bigger than the Australian Capital Territory, and holds enough fresh water to supply all of the earth’s human needs for a year.
It broke off the Mertz Tongue Glacier two weeks ago.

A team of Australian and French scientists has been studying cracks in the glacier for the last ten years.

Research scientist Neal Young says two giant fractures had almost joined, when a large iceberg collided with the glacier.
He says it is a once in a 50 to 100 year event.
“We don’t see any evidence at the moment, we don’t have enough information to be able to say any influence of climate change,” he said.
“It’s still part of the natural progression.”

Scientists say the change in the glacier’s shape could have a major impact on the enviroment, which is rich with birds and wildlife.

Natural Progression huh? Is that kind of like the climate changes in cycles? All part of the natural progression of things perhaps?
